Somerset, N.J. (Sept. 1, 2017) – Sky Blue – PDA will play its inaugural matches on Saturday with the launch of the U.S. Soccer Girl’s Development Academy, marking the official start of a nationwide competition for more than 6,000 players from 69 member clubs.
Sky Blue – PDA is an official partnership between Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League and Players Development Academy Soccer Club (PDA), and it is an inaugural member of the U.S. Soccer Girl’s Development Academy. Sky Blue – PDA opens play on Saturday against FC Virginia at the PDA Soccer Complex, which is located at 1 Upper Pond Road in Somerset, N.J. The action will get underway in the U-14 age group at 9:00 p.m., followed by games in the U-16/17 (11:00 a.m.), U-15 (1:30 p.m.) and U-18/19 (3:30 p.m.) divisions.
Additionally, the U-16/17 match between Sky Blue – PDA and FC Virginia will be the featured match of the Girls’ Development Academy opening weekend. The live stream of that game, which kicks off at 11:00 a.m., will air live on the U.S. Soccer Girls’ Development Academy Facebook page.
A total of 108 games will kick off the opening weekend of the Girls’ Academy, which launches to bring the development initiative to female youth players after 10 years of success with the Boys’ Academy. The Girls’ Academy is part of U.S. Soccer’s global leadership position in women’s soccer and connects with its long-term plan to improve player and coach development. The mission of the program is to provide education, resources and support to directly impact the everyday environment for clubs to develop world-class female players. Girls’ Academy games will be scouted by U.S. Soccer, and the program will serve as the top female program for soccer players in the country, providing a direct pathway to U.S. Soccer Youth National Teams.
