Last month Sky Blue FC Head Coach Denise Reddy met with Club partner South Bronx United, spending time and answering questions from players of the New York City youth development program.
As part of their mission, South Bronx United incorporates academic and personal support into the development of the players in addition to the standard soccer skills offered.
A Club Partner since 2017, South Bronx United players have attended Sky Blue FC games and participated in a number of game-day activities.
“I was very excited to be able to spend some time with the players and scholars from South Bronx United,” said Reddy. “They are extremely determined and had great insight into the game and I am very glad we were able to share thoughts and ideas.”
On supporting the mission of South Bronx United, Reddy continued, “I know that there are inequities in access to youth soccer and I am humbled to support programs that bridge this gap like South Bronx United. I am looking forward to continuing their partnership
with Sky Blue.”
Longtime coordinator of our partnership and overseer of the academic and support programs, SBU Academy Program Director Bridget Mahon, LMHC shared her thoughts on the visit and partnership between the two clubs.
“South Bronx United was honored to host Coach Denise Reddy at our SBU Academy program last week. Coach Reddy spent time in the classroom meeting with seventh and eighth-grade student-athletes and learning about our programs,” Mahon said.
“They were thrilled to meet someone with such a breadth of collegiate and professional soccer experience and eager to learn about her road to Sky Blue, her coaching philosophy, and her time working with some of their soccer idols, like Carli Lloyd. She left SBU youth with the motivational message that success takes hard work in the classroom and on the soccer field.
