After a 1-0 loss in the home opener last Saturday to the Houston Dash, Sky Blue FC are ready to get back in front of the home crowd as they face the Thorns for a Sunday night match-up.

“We are going into this match with more of an offensive mindset,” said Head Coach Denise Reddy. “Last match was an improvement, but I know we have a lot more energy to bring into the final third.”

Sky Blue FC is 6-7-3 against Portland. Out of the 16 times the teams have met, only four current players have notched a goal against the Thorns.  Carli Lloyd, Raquel Rodriguez, Sarah Killion and Imani Dorsey have all beaten Portland keepers on separate occasions.

Portland is coming to New Jersey after a 4-4 draw last Saturday against the Chicago Red Stars at SeatGeek Stadium. Thorns captain and Canadian international Christine Sinclair bagged a hat trick, becoming the sixth player in NWSL play to score three goals in a game since the start of 2016.

Sinclair earned NWSL Player of the Week honors for her multi-goal game against the Red Stars.

Sky Blue vs. Portland Rewind

In 2018, Sky Blue earned a 1-1 draw and were edged twice by the Thorns, each loss ending with a 2-1 scoreline. In the first meeting at Providence Park, Lloyd converted a penalty kick to tie the match up in the 77th minute. The second match-up saw the lone goal come from Dorsey, assisted by Savannah McCaskill in the 27th minute. Two more chances came later in the game for Sky Blue to tie it up, but the woodwork denied both shots. In the last match, Killion gained a goal back in the 85th minute with a stunner of a shot off a poor clearance inside the Thorns final third.
