Howell, N.J. (November 26, 2019) – Sky Blue FC forward Carli Lloyd is nominated for the 2019 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year award, U.S. Soccer announced today.
Lloyd led the Sky Blue FC attack with eight goals and one assist in 14 games played, and finished the season tied for sixth in the league for goals scored. Lloyd is ranked sixth all-time in NWSL goals (39). For the U.S. WNT, Lloyd played in all seven games in the World Cup and scored three goals. With her first goal in the game against Chile in the Group Stage match, Lloyd became the first player to score in six straight Women’s World Cup games. Lloyd led the U.S. WNT team this year with 16 goals in 23 games and is the highest active goal scorer in U.S. history with 121 international goals.
Lloyd was named U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year in 2008 and 2015.
Votes for U.S. Soccer Player of the Year awards are collected from respective National Team coaches, National Team players who have earned a cap in 2019, members of the U.S. Soccer Board of Directors, U.S. Soccer Athletes’ Council, National Women’s Soccer League head coaches for the USWNT, select media members and former players and administrators. In addition, select college coaches vote for the USWNT award.
