Sky Blue Names Oumou Toure As Most Recent TeamSnap MVC

Downtown United Soccer Club (DUSC) coach, Oumou Toure, is the most recent Sky Blue FC TeamSnap MVC. She currently coaches the girls’ 2009 Orange and 2011 Blue teams.

Sky Blue’s TeamSnap MVC honors coaches in our communities that exemplify an undeniable commitment to player growth and education. We aim to shine a light on coaches going above and beyond for their team while navigating the COVID-19 impacts.

Toure held twice-weekly Zoom video sessions to help her teams keep up with their foot skills, coordination, and balance. She would also send foot skills videos each week for the players to work on at home and video for their coaches. Each Saturday morning would feature a Zoom activity session with yoga, meditation, and games to help team bonding.

In addition to her coaching duties, Toure helped DUSC with their Instagram content by creating and running 30-40-minute sessions on ball mastery, coordination, balance, and strength. Toure credits DUSC’s organization and support for the ability to shift to digital training sessions and Instagram videos during the pandemic.

“Seeing Coach Oumou at any DUSC events is always an exciting time,” said Sky Blue FC Business Development Manager Matt Berner. “Her energy and passion for coaching was apparent from the first time I met her last winter. Her ability to inspire, play with joy, and express personality on the pitch expands beyond her team through her work on social media. Her positive attitude and work ethic is reflective of her personality as a natural leader.”

Outside of DUSC coaching, Toure works with NYCFC City in the Community’s Saturday Night Lights program. Saturday Night Lights is a violence prevention and youth-development program that offers soccer during times when crime levels are at the highest. Toure would again run Zoom sessions with the girls in the program. She noted the difficulty as many didn’t have the necessary soccer equipment, but Toure and the girls in the program were creative and able to utilize household items for training.

“I grew up loving this game, and I want to bring joy to all the kids that I come in contact with,” said Toure. “Seeing happiness and joy in the kids’ faces makes me happy as a coach and a person. After all, it is the most beautiful game in the world.”
