SBFC Abroad: Viens Scores First Goal, Riehl Makes First Appearance for Paris FC

By: Shannon Duffy

Sky Blue’s loaned players had another successful weekend in their matches abroad. Forward Evelyne Viens scored her first goal while defender Kaleigh Riehl made her first Division 1 Feminine appearance for Paris FC. Additionally, midfielders Elizabeth Eddy and Nahomi Kawasumi both appeared for Vittsjö GIK and INAC Kobe Leonessa.

After being loaned to Paris FC, Viens and Riehl played their first minutes together on Saturday in their match against Montpellier. Riehl started and played the full 90 in her first appearance for Paris FC. Viens entered early in the second half and found the back of the net just one minute later. Viens’ first goal in a Paris FC uniform put the club up 1-0. The goal was not enough to secure all three points as Montpellier later came back to secure a 2-1 victory. Paris FC now sits in tenth place in the Division 1 Feminine, but a win in the next match would likely push them multiple spots up in the standings.

Eddy and Vittsjö GIK had a busy week with two matches. After defeating Mariebo in the Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup), the team was back in action with a league match against Pitea. Starting the match at outside back, Eddy helped Vittsjö keep their opponent off the scoresheet. The game ended 0-0, adding a point to the club’s record this season. With the draw, Vittsjö sits in fifth place in the Swedish Damallsvenskan. Eddy has still yet to lose a match with Vittsjö after being with the club for almost two months.

In the Nadeshiko League 1, INAC defeated Iga Kunoichi 2-1 on Sunday. Kawasumi entered the match at the start of the second half and helped her club complete a comeback against Iga. Their opponents opened the scoring in the first minute and remained ahead for much of the match. INAC scored the equalizer in the 87th minute and scored again in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure the three points. INAC remains in fourth place with the victory, but they are just two points away from a third-place position in the league.

All four Sky Blue players and their clubs will be back in action this weekend. On Friday, October 9, Vittsjö will play Umea at noon ET. Then on Saturday, October 10, Paris FC will face off against Issy FF at 8:30 a.m. ET. Finally, on Sunday, October 11, INAC will meet Vegalta Sendai at midnight ET.
