Sky Blue FC loaned player Evelyne Viens tallied a late goal in Paris FC’s December 6 matchup against top-of-the-table Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and a brace on December 12 against Dijon FCO. The rookie holds the second-highest number of goals on the season for Paris FC and the seventh-highest in the Division 1 Feminine with a total of seven in just 11 matches.
The pressure was on PSG during the Saturday, December 6, match to extend their unbeaten streak in the Division 1 Feminine. The 2019 runners-up entered the match sitting in first place with a nine-match unbeaten run that began on September 5. The odds were against Viens and Paris FC as they headed into the match and fell early to PSG with an own-goal in the second minute. Just fifteen minutes later and PSG found the back of the yet once again to go up 2-0. Paris FC held off PSG for the remainder of the first half and looked to capitalize on PSG’s dangerous 2-0 lead heading into the second 45. PSG wasted no time and scored an early goal in the first minute of play in the second half. Viens entered the match in the 55th minute at striker with the hopes of getting Paris FC on the scoreboard. A fourth goal in the 62nd minute secured a 4-0 lead for PSG. Just when the day’s scoring seemed to be over, Viens broke through PSG’s backline and netted a late goal in the 82nd minute. The 4-1 loss dropped Paris FC to seventh place in the standings.
After tallying the late goal in Paris FC’s previous match, Viens returned to the starting lineup against Dijon FCO this past Saturday, December 12. Hoping to bounce back after a tough loss against PSG in their previous match, Viens and Paris FC headed into the weekend sitting just under Dijon FCO in the standings. Paris FC opened the scoring early with a goal by Viens in the second minute. The team scored moments later in the 15th minute to go up 2-0. Dijon FCO responded with a goal in the 27th minute, forcing Paris FC to hold on to a tight 2-1 lead heading into halftime. In the 56th minute, Viens notched her second goal of the match and her seventh on the season. Paris FC preserved a 3-1 lead for most of the second half until a late goal in the 79th minute put Dijon back on the scoreboard. The 3-2 scoreline remained until the final whistle, earning Paris FC three points and a reclaimed 6th spot on the table.
“Evelyne has been on an impressive run of form during this loan to Paris FC and we are absolutely thrilled for her,” said Sky Blue FC General Manager Alyse LaHue. “This is precisely what we hoped to get out of this experience for her and will look forward to watching her continued play in France before returning to Sky Blue next season.”
Following a month-long break, Viens and Paris FC will return to action on Saturday, January 16, at 8:30 a.m. ET, as they battle ASJ Soyaux-Charente in league play.
