Sky Blue FC’s loaned forward Evelyne Viens and Paris FC met Dijon FCO in the Round of 16 of the Women’s French Cup this past Saturday. Viens came off the bench in the second half of the match that had to be settled by penalty kicks.
Paris FC started off strong going up 1-0 off a goal in the 28th minute. They held onto the 1-0 lead through the end of the first half and into the second half. After going back and forth on possession, Dijon FCO eventually found the equalizer in the 67th minute to tie the match at one goal each.
Looking for a late go-ahead goal, Viens entered the match in the 72nd minute to help her squad make the late push. Their closest chance came right as the second half was ending as Viens and teammate Linda Sällström moved the ball into their attacking half, looking to capitalize. Sällström’s shot missed the net high, and the match ended shortly after with a 1-1 scoreline and move to penalty kicks. Dijon went on to win 4-2 on penalty kicks.
Paris FC continues league play this Saturday while Viens will depart to join her first-ever Canadian Women’s National Team camp. Viens is joining fellow Sky Blue FC teammate, goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, in Orlando for the camp as they prepare for the 2021 SheBelieves Cup.
