Sky Blue FC will be represented on two of the four teams competing in the 2021 SheBelieves Cup. Forward Carli Lloyd and forward/defender Margaret “Midge” Purce will represent the U.S. Women’s National Team. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan and forward Evelyne Viens will suit up for the Canadian Women’s National Team.

Entering its sixth iteration, the 2021 SheBelieves Cup features the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina competing in the round-robin style tournament. The teams will play all matches at Exploria Stadium in Orlando, FL, in the form of three double-header match days on February 18, 21, and 24.

United States Women’s National Team

The USWNT enters the tournament ranked first overall in the world and looking to defend their 2020 championship. After starting 2021 with two wins against Colombia in January, scoring a combined ten goals, and holding Colombia scoreless, the team enters with plenty of momentum. The victories extended the USWNT continued their 13-match winning streak that dates back to November 2019.

Canada will be the first test for the defending champions on February 18, followed by Brazil on February 21, and concluding with Argentina in the tournament’s final match on February 24.

Carli Lloyd – Forward
Lloyd, a proven veteran of the USWNT, leads the current team in career caps and career goals with 296 and 123, respectively. She has been a consistent member of the senior team dating back to 2005 when she made her debut against Ukraine. Lloyd has competed in every SheBelieves Cup since its inception in 2016.

After missing much of 2020 recovering from an injury, Lloyd started 2021 by playing a full 90 in the opening match and coming off the bench in the second. She has recorded three assists, including one that led to Purce’s first career international goal, in 117 minutes this year.

Margaret “Midge” Purce – Defender/Forward
Purce is making her first career SheBelieves Cup appearance after earning caps in the previous three matches for the USWNT. The versatile forward/defender is on the tournament roster as a defender where she primarily plays out of the right back spot.

Earlier this year, Purce made appearances off the bench in the two friendly matches against Colombia. In the second of the two, Purce put an exclamation point on the match by scoring her first career international goal in the 86th minute.

Canadian Women’s National Team

The Canadian Women’s National Team enters the tournament ranked eight globally. Unlike the USWNT, Canada will be getting their first action of the year during the SheBelieves Cup. The tournament marks their first competitive play since March 2020 after going 4-2-2 on the year.

Kailen Sheridan – Goalkeeper
Sheridan is one of four goalkeepers on the Canadian Women’s National Team roster for the 2021 SheBelieves Cup. She has been a member of the senior team since 2016, including during the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

After participating in both of Canada’s camps in 2020, Sheridan recorded one clean sheet in her two starts. She looks to add to her nine career appearances in the three upcoming SheBelieves Cup matches.

Evelyne Viens – Forward
For Viens, the SheBelieves Cup marks her first call up to the Canadian Women’s National Team. She will look to start her senior team career off hot by keeping her current form she has displayed throughout her loan with Paris FC. In only twelve appearances, Viens has scored eight goals and recorded one assist. She boasts 1.01 goals per 90 and 1.14 goals + assists per 90 averages, leading the team and top five in the league for both stats.
